Eton Manor

Location : London   |   Status : Completed   |   Sector : London 2012, Sport

Description
Richard Arnold was the Project Sponsor with the Olympic Delivery Authority for the development and delivery of Eton Manor, venue of the London 2012 Wheelchair Tennis competition.

Eton Manor is built on the site of the old Eton Manor Sports Club, established in the 1900’s and once an elite sporting association. It was the only new, purpose built permanent venue of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. However this only tells part of the story as the site has been developed in three distinct phases:

Olympic Games – temporary aquatic training facilities that are capable of being relocated and re-used again after the Games;

Paralympic Games – venue of wheelchair tennis events, including nine competition tennis courts with temporary seating for 10,500 spectators including a main show-piece court with 5,000 seats;

Legacy – the enhancements to the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, which formed the venue for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Venue.

The delivery of the venue was developed so that as much of the permanent legacy buildings were built from day one with temporary facilities overlaid for the Olympic and Paralympics, which minimised the capital cost and reduced the overall programme.
